Product Description
- Confirm 13924T is Torlon (the hard plastic ball the fix calls for) and not nylon; this kit only makes sense with the harder ball.
- Confirm the checkball count by year (7 through 2013, 8 from 2014 per one maker; not checked against a GM source).
- Confirm how to tell the 2006-2010 and 2010-up plate gaskets apart for 2010 units.
- Shoot one photo of the packed kit and one of the checkball locations on a real upper valve body.
Fits: 6L80, 6L90 · 2006-up
The job: Pan off, valve body out. The transmission stays in the vehicle.
Does it slip or flare when you pull away in Drive, usually in first gear, sometimes with code P2723 or P2728 and a check-engine light? On the 6L80 and 6L90 one known cause is a worn, shrunken or missing plastic checkball in the upper valve body. When that ball stops sealing, oil meant for the 1-2-3-4 clutch leaks away and the clutch slips. It is a cheap part, so check it before you buy a TCM or solenoid body.

How the job goes
- Drain the fluid and drop the pan. Take out the filter.
- Unplug and remove the valve body with the solenoid body (TEHCM) attached. Keep it level.
- Separate the solenoid body and then the upper and lower valve body. Note where every checkball sits before you lift the plate.
- Replace every checkball, both separator plate gaskets and the solenoid screen plate.
- Reassemble with the new valve body to case seals. Tighten the bolts in the factory sequence to the factory torque (they are small and easy to over-tighten).
- Fill with Dexron VI, then run the clutch relearn with a scan tool. Skip it and a good repair can still shift badly.
You will also need
Dexron VI fluid, an inch-pound torque wrench, and a scan tool that can run the GM transmission relearn.
Before you buy
Pick the plate gasket style that matches your valve body. Both styles are listed for 2010 units, so compare your old gaskets with the photos or call us with the numbers from your transmission ID tag.
