How it works
The lube dam floods the front and rear planetary assemblies so the pinions and needle bearings run in an oil bath. The added lubrication gives proper heat exchange and better cooling. It addresses planetary gear set failure in the AXOD and AXODE, inadequate lube flow to the front and rear planetary, and extreme heat buildup in the planetary core. The design has been featured at ATSG seminars and in the ATSG technical manual.
Notes
The AXOD lube dam increases the volume of fluid to the planetary assemblies, thus giving proper heat exchange by flooding the front and rear assemblies.
