Why it fails
This spring applies the overdrive direct clutch. Once it fades, clamping force drops and the clutch cannot hold, causing slipping or no reverse, reduced or no coast braking in manual 2nd or 1st gear, and burnt overdrive direct clutch plates.
It is common in 1988 to 2007 Dodge, Ram and Jeep vehicles with small case transmissions (A500, 40RH, 42RH, 40RE, 42RE, 44RE) and big case transmissions (A518, 46RH, 46RE, A618, 47RH, 47RE, 48RE).
