Why it fails
Common complaints are 2-3 flare, direct clutch failure, erratic shifting, delayed engagements, and flares or neutrals on up and downshifts. Gear ratio and solenoid performance codes, TCC shudder or slip, and TCC codes are also common.
The reducing valve limits the pressure fed to all the solenoids, the lockup control valve (damper clutch control valve) and pressure control valves A, B and C, much like an AFL or solenoid regulator valve on other units. Its spring keeps solenoid feed pressure below a set PSI regardless of main line pressure. When its bore wears, solenoid feed and output pressures run too high or too low, causing shift complaints, codes, and low or high line pressure.
The converter pressure regulator valve limits converter pressure when the converter clutch is released and during lockup apply. With excessive bore wear, the computer loses control of the lockup apply rate, leading to TCC slip, shudder and TCC codes.
The oversized reducing valve restores the circuit after the bore is reamed oversize with TransGo tool kit A4A6-RV-TK. The drop-in converter regulator bushing, valve, spring and end plug restore the converter regulator function in the existing worn bore with no tooling.
