Why they fail
Common complaints are shuttle shifts, bind-up or flare on the 2-3 shift, slipping under throttle in 3rd or 4th, stalling the engine at a stop and TCC slip codes.
A worn TCC relay boost valve and bushing causes lockup control and overheating complaints. A worn solenoid modulator valve bore is the other cause. Like an AFL valve on other units, the solenoid modulator valve and spring keep solenoid feed pressure below a set PSI no matter what line pressure is, so the solenoids are not fed more fluid than they can regulate and maximum line pressure stays limited. When feed pressure is too high or too low, solenoid output follows, causing shift quality complaints, solenoid performance and gear ratio codes and low or high line pressure.
The drop-in USA-made hardened steel TCC relay boost valve and bushing restore the hydraulic circuit. The redesigned drop-in solenoid modulator valve system needs no tooling: the furnished bushing and valve restore modulator function in the existing worn bore.
