Superior Transmission Parts Sure-Cool thermal control bypass valve (STL009) for Ford 6R60, 6R75 and 6R80 transmissions, 2006-2016, made in the USA. It fits all 6R60 Explorer, 6R75 Expedition/Navigator and 6R80 Mustang/F-150 applications.

It gives full-time cooler flow with a much lower average fluid temperature, and it lets you check the fluid level immediately and accurately without a warm-up cycle, which saves re-racking and rechecking time.

Why the OEM valve fails

The OEM wax pellet thermostatic flow control defaults to cooler flow OFF. It needs a preheat cycle up to the boiling point of water or higher to switch cooler flow ON. When it malfunctions, typically stuck OFF, cooler flow is bypassed and the ATF and transmission overheat. This affects the pump, valve body and solenoids, as well as sealing rings and clutch drum operation.

Even when the OEM system is ON, a blocked radiator or pinched cooler line blocks all lube flow, which leads to a cascade failure of needle bearings, bushings and planetaries.

The patented Sure-Cool system defaults to cooler flow ON. It fills and purges air from the cooler and lines right away, so the correct fluid level can be set at the first start-up after repair without a long warm-up, and installers do not need to handle a hot transmission. It typically holds ATF temperature around 160 degrees even under working conditions, which extends fluid life, prevents many over-temperature problems and helps the controls give consistent shifts.

A high pressure safety bypass is built into the lube circuit: if cooler flow is blocked, fluid goes straight into the lube circuits to keep lube flowing to the planets.
