GM 8L45 and 8L90 transmissions may have TCC apply and release problems. Bore wear or a stuck converter feed limit valve can result in converter overheat, incorrect TCC apply or release, inadequate lube and cooling, and converter over-pressurization. Reaming the bore and installing the Sonnax oversized converter feed limit valve kit 154740-22K will restore proper valve function, resulting in proper TCC apply and release, regaining control of lube and cooling.
- Hardcoat anodized aluminum valve combats premature wear
- Annular groove helps center the valve in bore
NOTE: OE vacuum testing at the inboard spool requires Sonnax converter feed limit valve vacuum test tool 154740-TL22.
Symptoms
- Excess converter pressure
- High TCC slip RPM
- Code P0218
- Code P0741
- Overheated converter
- Inadequate lubrication
Causes
Converter feed limit bore wear or stuck converter feed limit valve can result in overheat, incorrect TCC apply/release, inadequate lube and cooling and other problems.
Correction
Recover hydraulic control and renew TCC and lube performance by reconditioning the bore and installing Sonnax oversized converter feed limit valve kit.
