Why it is needed
In high-performance or transplanted vehicles built for off-road or strip use, builders sometimes drop the lockup function and fit a converter without a lockup clutch. Without changes at the oil pump and valve body, the converter does not stay fully charged under heavy load and high RPM, which causes slippage (loss of coupling) and excessive heat.
This drop-in valve system redirects converter flow to the primary pump area so the converter stays fully charged under high load and RPM. No pump machining, cross-drilling or pump or support modification is needed. The TCC enable solenoid is not needed, but it can be reinstalled. The kit is compatible with the TransGo line for the 2004R and 700R4/4L60.
Running a non-lockup converter in an overdrive ratio raises transmission operating temperature and can cause overheating, so adding a cooler is recommended.
