Why it fails
High-mileage units often show a coast-downshift clunk when hot, ratio codes, long and soft shifts and premature bushing failure. Wear at the solenoid pressure regulator valve and/or the lube pressure regulator valve causes these complaints.
The solenoid regulator valve limits the pressure going to the solenoids. Its spring is calibrated to keep solenoid feed pressure below a set PSI no matter what main line pressure is, so the solenoids are not fed more fluid than they can regulate. If solenoid feed pressure is too high or too low, solenoid output follows, causing shift quality complaints, codes and low or high main line pressure.
The lube regulator valve takes supply oil from the line pressure circuit and steps it down for the lube circuit, the bushings and the oil cooler. When its bore wears, lube pressure drops and the bushings wear. The wear also causes a loss of TCC release pressure, so the TCC clutch drags or is partly applied during coast down. The reduced converter slippage then causes a rough shift or clunk on coast downshifts.
No holding fixture is needed, and a reaming spacer lets the same reamer be used for both bores. Shops that already have the tools can order refill kit 6R80-VBR-NT. For a complete repair, TransGo pairs this kit with valve body kits SK 6R80-A (GEN1) and SK 6R80-G2 (GEN2).

Notes
Does Not Fit: ZF6HP 21/28/34 GEN2
The valve body incorporates a lube pressure regulator valve that supplies oil to the bushings and to the required lubrication areas of the transmission.
No expensive holding fixture required
