Why it is needed
Before final assembly, the T-44587AC is installed at the PTO mount and held in place by two bolts. Once the rear half is assembled and the extension housing is bolted on, the transmission is rolled back over with the bell housing flange up.
Without preload, the main shaft can move during that roll-over and the P3 sun gear thrust bearing often falls out of place. At a minimum that means clearance problems and time spent disassembling. If it goes unnoticed, the bearing gets pinched and fails on the test run, taking costly hard parts with it.
