Solenoid dampers are used in Toyota/Lexus UA80E/F & UB80E/F series transmissions to dampen or smooth out the signal fluid pressure applied from each control solenoid before the fluid flows to their respective valves and clutches. These components help provide a smooth operation of the transmission by removing the pressure spikes.

When the bore and/or pistons wear out, they cannot effectively dampen the variation in pressure and can potentially exhaust fluid pressure. This can result in loss of shift control pressure, delayed engagement, poor shift quality, burnt clutches and TCC apply and release concerns.

Replacing these worn out dampers can require replacing the solenoid body or the entire control valve body.
