Opening a variator on a Subaru Gen 2 takes a unique spreader. With this tool, simply insert the plate and line up the bolts and washers to the case. Then add the nuts and start tightening evenly. And just like that, the drive belt is free to do as you please.
Here’s How to Remove and Install Subaru Gen 2 Drive Belt Using T-SUBGEN2AC:
1) Insert Plate
2) Line up bolt holes in plate with bolt holes in case
3) Set up each bolt with heavy washer at plate side and standard washer and nut below case
4) Tighten evenly by hand back and forth to release tension on the belt
