It can be difficult to reduce the endplay in Ford 4R100 and E4OD units with spline or sunshell wear. When driveline wear is excessive, sealing ring and thrust wear increases. As the lower unit wear increases, OE selective thrust washers are not thick enough to compensate. Rebuilders often try to correct excessive endplay by adding thicker shims to the pump surface, but this does not solve the problem. Sonnax unit endplay shim 36402-Z compensates for driveline wear.
